Since the beginning of November coach Doug Fisher and the Falcon wrestling team have been practicing and getting ready for the first wrestling meet. On December 1st the Falcons will travel to Skyline H.S. in Front Royal, VA to compete in the Elite Opener. This will be a 12 team tournament which will included some of the best teams from across the state of Virginia. Teams will be placed into three pools of four as each wrestler will wrestle three matches. The top wrestlers from each pool will then wrestle each other for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and so on for all other wresters grouped with similar records.

Over the month of December the Falcons will compete in five tournaments and one dual meet. The Falcons will host cross county rival Liberty H.S. on Dec. 20th in a dual as they will then compete in one of the biggest events of the year, the Beast of the East on December 22 and 23. Below is a snap shot of the schedule for the month of December.

As Coach Doug Fisher starts his third year as the head wresting coach with a 38 - 6 win lost record that is a 86 winning percentage, one will wonder if this year’s wrestling team can continue to compete at a high level like in past years. Winning the District Tournament for the seventh straight year and taking home the Regional crown for the third straight year are streaks that Coach Fisher and his squad may find hard to retain. With the departure of seven seniors from last season team Fisher is going to rely on a much younger group of kids to keep these streaks and successes alive. Looking outside in you would think that this would be a rebuilding year for the 2012-13 wrestling team.

Some of the key individuals for the 2012-13 year will be seniors Michael Villalobos and Max Strum as they enter this year as team leaders as they look to put their name in the records book. Other notable wrestlers to watch will be underclassmen Matt Raines, Dan Ariola, and Henry Weber.
