The 2017-18 Fauquier Wrestling Schedule

Fauquier’s tentative wrestling schedule for the 2017-18 campaign is set as 13 regular season dates fill the schedule. Currently the Falcons will be participating in four individual tournaments, six dual team tournaments, two District Quads, and one Dual meet. Fauquier plans to host its annual Falcon Duals on December 9th, followed by a Northwestern District Quad on December 13th and a home Dual with foe Battlefield HS. on January 26th which complete the home stand for the 2017-18 season.

Team Fauquier will have three pre-season scrimmages and will once again start the season by participating in the Elite Open at Skyline HS. on December 2nd. Fauquier will compete in the Beast of the East, Mount Mat Madness, and the Virginia Duals which historically has been ranked in the top 10 as the toughest wrestling events in the nation. Attending the USMC Ultimate Challenge in January as the last event of the regular season will set the stage for the post season.

Questions for Coach Fisher
Q: With 13 dates set for the 2017-18 campaign this seems like a more-loaded schedule than years past can you reflect on the toughness of it.
Fisher: "Our schedule this year has been expanded somewhat. The schedule continues to provide our guys opportunities to see the best wrestlers in the nation while additionally providing challenging competition for our younger guys."

Q: How many events can an individual wrestler participate in during a season prior to the post season and what can we expect to see.
Fisher: "Wrestlers can participate in 12 events. So no one will be wrestling all 13 events. With the two dual meets, we will actually be reducing their mat time, in the interest being more fan friendly."

Q: As two of the dates will have team Fauquier participating in the Northwestern District Quad meets, with seven teams in the 4A district can you tell us how this will play out regarding seeding and the post season District Finals. Any word on how wrestlers will advance to the Regional Championships.
Fisher: "The district quad meets will be used as the basis for seeding the Northwestern District Championships. Regional advancement has not been finalized, but regardless, I believe our schedule will be a major contributing factor in our preparedness for the post-season."
