The Fauquier High School wrestling team competed at the Evergreen District Duals on Sat., Jan. 15th where the Falcons rolled over their foes with pins! Coming off a week at the Virginia Duals (Hampton VA) where they finished 2nd in the America Division and other highly ranked events this season, this was the first time that the Falcons were able to compete with grapplers from Fauquier County. The District Duals is an event where the five Evergreen District teams are able to wrestle each other to then to be seeded for the district tournament in February. For example, a 4-0 wrestler should be seeded 1st as a 3-1 wrester should then be seeded 2nd, and so on.

Fauquier wrestled Brentsville their very first match which was slated for one of the best matches of the day. With a 48-18 victory over Brentsville, Fauquier recorded six pins from the following wrestlers: Chuck Hilleary, Tyler Budd, Greg Flournoy, Seth Baker, Van Grimes, and Jacob Fahlfeder. Marco Tcheukado wrestled one of the closest matches on the day. Marco at 103 was down by 1 point in the remaining seconds of the match and needed a take down to win. Marco came-up big! He was able to get in on a single leg and near the out of bounds area to record a takedown right when the time of the match expired.

Fauquier then wrestled Kettle Run winning 74-6 and recorded a record high 10 pins, followed by Warren County which Fauquier beat 57-15 and recorded 7 pins. Fauquier’s final match of the day was against their county rival Liberty. Fauquier simply did not let up as they over powered the Eagles by winning 68-9 and again earned 7 pins in the match. By far the District Duals was one of the best showings by the Falcons as there were 7 wresters that went undefeated for the day and 3 wrestlers earning 4 pins (Chuck Hilleary, Greg Flournoy, and Jacob Fahlfeder). The Falcons combined score through 4 matches was 247-48 with a total of 30 pins. It was clear the team came hungry to wrestle.

The Falcons will travel to PA this upcoming weekend Jan. 20th. and 21st. where they will compete in the Red Raider Rumble tournament at Bellefonte HS coach Fisher’s alma-mater’s cross town rival. We are hoping the team does a great job in front of his home town fans.
